A pair of Large Georgian/Victorian style door knobs with a "reeded" design in solid brass.
High quality, hand turned, brass door knobs/handles made to an original design.
These brass Georgian reeded door knobs/handles have been faithfully reproduced from an original door knob we were fortunate to salvage and is therefore a design exclusive to us, despite there being many copies on the market.
This style of door knob was popular from the Georgian period (c. 1714 - 1837) through to Victorian (c. 1837 - 1901) times and have remained popular up to today and because the door knobs come with separate rose plates
they can be used on either tubular, mortise or rim locks.
The door knobs are unsprung and rely on the spring in the door lock for their back and forth movement Key Points
- High quality design taken from an original door knob salvaged by us.
- Solid brass handles with simple lines.
- Each set comes complete in its own box with door knobs, steel spindle, all fixing screws, hex head steel grub screw and individual Allen key for fitting grub screws.
- Brass is not lacquered so will mellow further and develop a wonderful patina.
- All fixing screws are hand aged to match.
- The threaded steel spindle is grooved and threaded either end for fine adjustments. This is known as "The Pitts Mortice System".
- Spindle also comes with a removable collar if existing lock housing is slightly smaller.
- All grub screws now made from steel for durability.
- Suitable for indoor use only.

Required Tools:
- Screwdriver for wood screws
- Allen key (included) for grubs screws
- Pencil
(Always ensure you use the correct size screwdrivers)
DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN GRUB OR WOOD SCREWS OR USE POWER TOOLS AS THIS MAY RESULT IN FITTING SCREWS BEING DAMAGED.Check assembly and that all parts are present before starting.
You should have x2 door knobs, x2 rose/back plates, x1 universal spindle with slide off packer, allen key for grub screw and fitting screws for rose plates.
- Insert spindle through door latch mechanism, ensuring that equal amounts of the thread project to each side of the door. Place x1 rose / back plate over spindle on one side and then screw on door knob.
- Carefully tighten grub screw ensuring that the grub screw is located into one of the key way recess's of the spindle and not onto the threaded part of the spindle. Failure to do so will result in the door knob working loose and unscrewing.
Tighten grub screw carefully, but do not over tighten – ‘nip it up’ using the Allen key.
- At this point you must ensure the spindle is level / horizontal. Failure to do so may mean that the door knob assembly will stick during service and may fail or cause the door knob to break.
- Secure the rose / back plate by making the pilot holes and then screwing in the wood screws. Again, do not over tighten wood screws.
- Insert 2nd rose / back plate over spindle on other side of door and repeat points as above.
- Remember that there should be a little play in the door knobs to ensure that they can be turned within the rose plates. Do not over tighten as the mechanism will not operate.
- Please ensure that all stained door knobs receive a wipe with a lint free dry cloth to remove any residue left after production.
